WHY THE HOUSE MOVE?

We've thought about moving house for such a long time, don't get me wrong I really do love our house, all the memories we've made and even our village is dreamy - rural, with a small park. If I could pick it up and move it 15 miles south then it would be the perfect home - but I can't and as 95% of our life is situated in that town 15 miles away, it's making commuting and everything else that comes in with that, time, money etc - a big old problem. Moving home is not something everybody has done, and it's not even something everybody plans to do. I get it, I really do. People buy their forever homes and that's where they live till they're taken out in a box, others prefer to buy and sell and buy and sell till they are blue in the face. Some people don't even buy at all, forever stuck in a renting rut or simply content with what they've got. Everybody is totally different, though I think when you know it's time, you just know. And we just have to go with our gut.

I found it interesting when talking with some fellow bloggers, on what's made them move in the past. No two ladies had the same reason, which had me intrigued. It fitted well with my perspective when viewing houses, the pessimist in me always assumed their must be some underlying sinister reason they're wanting to sell. Is the roof full of rot? Are we going to be kept up all night by neighbours that like to party? Is there some planning permission for a factory across the road? What's the secret they're hiding? Sometimes, actually, most of the time, it's truly something over nothing and just like us, they've decided now is the time for them. It got me thinking - why do people move houses?

Too many ghosts holding them back?
No, this doesn't mean (well - I hope not) there are actual ghosts in their homes that are holding them back. More the metaphorical sense. Ghosts such as failing relationships, a career disaster, a breakdown, any bad times that are resurrected every time you set foot in your current home aren't going to be something you want to face every single day. It's only natural to want to up and sell. And, these kind of ghosts can take it's toll on your inner peace and happiness, which is why I don't blame anyone that wants to be as far away from them as possible. For a lot of people too, the ghosts are out-shadowed by wonderful memories; bring home their first born or even a second, third and fourth born, celebrating birthdays, engagements, promotions. Happier memories hold firm and it can be hard to let them go when it's time to move out.

Age taking it's toll.
Growing old is definitely a privilege, but it doesn't always come without bumps in the road. As we age, our bodies change and suddenly we aren't the young spring chickens we once were. Those three flights of stairs in your townhouse might not be so appealing when you're elderly. And, when this time of old age comes, it might be time to sell up and move on to a place that is far more suitable and far more accommodating for you. Yes, it might be sad to do so, leaving those memories above behind, but memories can be taken with you, they don't remain in the four walls of a house. Comfort for yourself and for your loved ones to know you're safe is imperative, peace of mind is far more valuable.

A nasty area.
Sometimes, the reason for moving could be nothing to do with the mover at all. Which is sad, because moving home, when there isn't reasoning from yourself is really frustrating. Quite often, it's all about the area that they live in, a little bit like us, we love our area but it's not an ideal location for where we need to be each day, for work, schools, family etc. I feel fortunate we live in such a nice quaint village, because that isn't always the case and something I constantly worried about when viewing other houses. You can't really gauge a street or area from a simple 20 minute stay. How do you know they're not moving because of some neighbourhood issue? Whether than means the neighbours from hell or living in a neighbourhood that doesn't have the best crime rate. I wouldn't blame anyone for getting their stuff packed up, visiting this website to find a reputable moving company and getting out of there. A home has to be where you're comfortable, and if you're not, then it's definitely time to look elsewhere.

Sometimes in life, moving home is the best course of action to take. Whether it's something you 'umm' and 'ahh' about for years on end, or a thought that enters your head one morning and you just run with it. For a lot of people moving home is the only way you are going to find a complete happiness and depth in your life. So, don't be afraid to do it.
