THIS ISN'T FAIR, time is going past with the blink of an eye and it feels so daunting knowing you are closer to a year than we are your birth. I think I feel particularly sad about this month passing by because it's actually been one of my most favourite ages with you, don't get me wrong I loved you as a newborn and sleeping most of the day away but you're really becoming someone now, I know you, I understand what your actions, sounds and behaviour means and that makes me happy because it means we understand each other - kind of. It's also been a month of growing up for you and although it does pain me to see my baby not being so much of a baby anymore, it's lovely seeing how pleased you are when you learn new things that I will never become tired of.
A few milestones have happened this month, you're now sitting more confidently and I can rely on you to be good without any cushioning. Of course I wouldn't be testing that out in the kitchen where the floor is hard, but on the living room carpet you are pretty good to go. I joked at this point in your last update, something along the lines of not risking leaving you without cushioning & needing to go to the hospital with you, I clearly jinxed us as that was something we did do this month, nothing to do with sitting up though, and more so to do with Noah. He managed to jump up onto Daddy as he was crouched down holding you, all whilst I was preparing your bath, of course a clash of his head against your nose, some blood and cries, meant a worried Mum over here just wanted to get you checked out. Luckily, your nose is totally cartilage at this point so nothing but a tiny bit of swelling to worry about. You boys ey? Weaning wise, we've moved onto a mixture of baby led weaning and purees, you seem to want to feel as though you're a boss baby, in control, so having something to hold and munch on yourself is right up your street. bread sticks, rice cakes and fruit are all winners for us as far as BLW is concerned. Just this week we're changing up the consistency in your purees. They are lumpier and you're doing well.
So what else is going on with you? No longer are you by my side at bedtime, waking me every time you toss and turn with the creaks of your Moses Basket, you're in your 'big boy cot' as your brother likes to call it. It is bitter sweet, I love seeing you there, looking so tiny with all the vast space you have now. But I miss you, I know it's a huge independent step that we all needed, I think you were waking as soon as we came to bed and I couldn't rest properly as I'd be too alert. You had your first go on the swings this week, though it didn't seem to impress you very much you were far more interested in trying to suck the chains and staring at someone mowing their lawn. Noah was desperate to push you, but as I didn't fancy sending you into outer space, we avoided that one this time. (Thank me later). I can finally say what your weight is in this update because during our impromptu visit to A&E, the nurse kindly offered to weigh you for us. You are almost a whopping 18lb. I felt so proud because it is a clear indicator how well you have thrived, your start was so tough but no one would know. My little 6lb preemie boy now weighs the average of a normal baby born at full-term weighing 8lb. We're fully out of 3-6 month clothes now, and you're relishing the extra room in 6-9, though because the sizing varies so widely, a lot of the sleep suits still swamp you.
So that's it for the first six whole months of your life. We're past the halfway mark baby, and I finally feel like life is getting a little easier with two boys. I have zero fears about your relationship with your brother, you are both absolutely besotted. I've warned Noah about your like to grab faces, yet he knowingly and willingly will shove his beaming face in front of you, desperate for some interaction - which of course you give.
It's lovely to have posts like this to look back on. I think you miss each phase as you hit the next and then find reasons why the phase of childhoood is better than the last. Lovely post.
ReplyDeleteHe sounds like he is doing so well! Seven months always feels like a leap, moving them into their bedrooms and cot, weaning etc it feels like they really start to grow up and become less baby.

Awww I love that you have written this as a letter. Such a lovely reminder to look back on in years to come. And yes, time goes far too quick! Katie xx
ReplyDeleteSUCH a lovely post to read. Can totally relate to everything you've said too, sat here right now with my sleeping six month baba on me. They really do grow too quickly. Here's to another month of wonder x
ReplyDeleteThis is a really nice idea, you'll be able to read through all of these posts when he's big and remember what he did and how teeny he was!
ReplyDeleteSuch cute photos! They grow and change so much don't they? He's doing great. Love this way of documenting his updates!
ReplyDeleteAwww he's so cute Emily! What a fabulous way of keeping track of his growing and developing. Time is going far too quickly don't you think? So glad his little nose is okay, and sounds like the boys had so much fun on the swings! xx

Lovely picture .. it does go in the blink of an eye, it sounds as though you are relishing every moment!
ReplyDeleteAh he's such a cutie! I am so looking forward to the stage where they have a proper personality and you can start interacting more with them (although Benjamin is very cuddly and cute at this age). It's lovely how close siblings are isn't it? Hoping my older two carry are close with Benjamin too despite the age gap x
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd done updates like this, it's so lovely to look back on. I hope it wasn't too scary having a trip to the hospital! Adorable photos!
ReplyDeleteI love this age. Although, I totally remember those mixed feelings that you have when you move baby into their 'big cot'.
