A FULL TERM OF SCHOOL

We're within touching distance now of the end of the first term of school for Noah and whilst it's gone so fast, it also feels like he's always been there and this has forever been our routine. I would love to sit here and be able to portray what I'm sure many would deem a more 'real' version of motherhood and say we've struggled through, finding it difficult, but that's pretty far from the truth and I couldn't be prouder of Noah and how he's taken to school life. I know that isn't the case for so many and I'm pretty confident there will be times between both boys in which we'll really struggle with school life but for now things are running pretty smoothly so I'm feeling incredibly grateful that I'm able to say that.

Noah did already attend his school for half days since January, so it was never going to be something totally out of the ordinary for him, I wasn't expecting big tears or long gripping not-letting-go hugs, it was never really a fear of those first few days but more so how he'd hold up as the weeks went by. It's a massive adjustment for everyone in the family, us getting used to the routine, making sure homework is done and uniforms are ready etc, Patrick not having his brother around in the daytime anymore and of course, Noah having the biggest change of all by beginning school. So there has been little bumps in the road, rushed homework on a Sunday night and desperately searching for pe kits, though I'm sure that's all part and parcel of parenthood, in my desperate times when I've felt overwhelmed by it I found myself looking at Canberra's home service group and contemplating cleaners to ease the load but we're all definitely getting there slowly.

Now that we're a full term in it's easy to see how school has affected Noah in such a positive way, his reading has come on ten fold and I'm incredibly proud of him for it, it isn't often a book comes home that he struggles with and he's so interested in writing out words at the moment. He enjoys going to school and whilst I'm sure the novelty will wear as he gets older, we still get asked every weekend 'is it a school day tomorrow Mummy?', with him being a bit narked if the answer is a no. There is a little quad of them that are best friends and I don't even have to ask the age old question of 'Who did you play with today?' as the answer is always the same. School dinners are always eaten and we've never had to worry about packing up lunches thank goodness as it's something extra I really wouldn't want to add to the plate. Noah overall really enjoys school and I'm so glad as having a battle each day to get my son to school would not be fun and I really do feel for anyone in that position.

Of course it's only natural that there has been some small bumps in the road, I wouldn't even call it that, naturally a big change like this is going to take its toll and it mainly seems to have effected his energy levels. He's exhausted. He's always been a great sleeper but he definitely falls asleep a lot faster these days and you can physically see the exhaustion in his face by the end of the week, he's almost five but he's still so little and sometimes the days feel so long without him home. Patrick misses him considerably and we definitely have tears some mornings when 'my go school with Noah', it's hard for him to understand but it means he's so excited to see him when he hears the door opening in the evening.

I'm really hoping that his first footing is a sign of things to come with Noahs education, his parents evening went without a hitch and it seems as though the parents can see just exactly what kind of boy he is which makes me even prouder. We've not had a single issue and I'm thankful so far we haven't had the dreaded 'can we have a word' at collection time, though I'm certain everyone will be in that position at some point. Let's just hope when it's little Pips turn, he takes to school like a duck to water too.
