PLANNING PATRICKS PARTY

I know I know, I'm a little ahead of myself, Patrick doesn't actually turn two until June. But I want to be ahead of myself and I love nothing more than planning my boys birthdays. Last year we really didn't do much, one is always a little bit of an anticlimax for me and bittersweet if anything. Turning two is much more my bag and I'm determined to make a big deal out of it this year. Last year I'd not long returned to work, we'd just been on holiday and June is always a really busy month and though we definitely celebrated Patricks birthday, it wasn't fully the way I would have wanted. This year will be different.

I'm already onto the standard birthday party track, I've made a Pinterest board and set it to secret so I can plan all my ideas on the back burner. I think until your child's a bit older, it's always tricky to know what kind of 'theme' to go for, but I insist on having one none the less. Patrick doesn't have any huge interests, he loves the trolls film, and a lot of other disney movies but minus that, he isn't really mad about anything in particular. A very fickle child, what can be his favourite on a Monday, he'll pay no interest in by Friday - a complete whirlwind. But it's ok, he's only one and I'd expect no different. I remember at this stage Noah loved Pingu, it was the only thing he'd watch. But I think as Patrick has an older brother, he's almost aged that must faster and doesn't pay a bit of interest to Peppa Pig, Pingu or baby tv. But, that isn't going to stop this Mama. I thought long and hard, and then it made complete sense, a wild party, for my wild boy. We're opting for wild animals.

Having got a bit pin happy over the past couple of days, and resisting the urge to splurge on the pretty little party shop, I did manage to group together the theme I was going for on a mood board. We tend to always celebrate birthdays at my parents house, they've got the space for it and it just makes sense. As Patrick is only one and doesn't attend any form of childcare he doesn't really have any friends, and wanting to take advantage of the cheaper parties whilst we can, it'll just be family around on his special day. It means we don't have to play host to other people and can really sit back and enjoy it ourselves.

I've really been thinking about what we'll have going on for his birthday, as I said my parents have quite a bit of space and with Patricks birthday being in June it'll mean we can take full advantage of the weather. Let's hope, knowing my luck it'll be trashing it down. It's always been a downside of Noahs birthday landing in December, we're really limited in what we can do which sucks. But, I'm sure he'll enjoy his brothers birthday celebrations as we're hoping to hire some inflatables for the garden - think giant slide, bouncy castle, that kind of thing. We actually hired a huge 40ft inflatable slide for Noahs christening, it was great though I distinctly remember John's dad almost breaking his neck at one point which was all caught on camera. Food will no doubt be the role of my Mum and sister, having contemplated caterers and spent a great deal of time looking at the delights corporate caterers in Sydney offer, it was something I was torn over. But my sister's cakes and cupcakes are to die for, and she's made the cakes for everyones birthdays for as long as I can remember, I know it'll be a matter of weeks before she's asking me what cake I want for Patrick.

So now I think it's pretty obvious I am far more excited for his birthday than mine which falls a week later, I should probably get putting my ideas into action and ordering some pieces. Though, like mother like son, I'll have no doubt changed my mind by the end of the week. Did you have a theme for your little ones birthdays?
