SOMETIMES BLOGGING SUCKS

I love being a blogger, it was a complete hobby move and the reality that it's now turned into an income is still astonishing to me. It's never something I'm complacent about and I'm more than aware that the income stream could slip away at any point - that's one of the downsides of being a blogger. One of many, just like any other job there are things that happen that I really, really wish didn't and in those jobs you generally just have to keep quiet and plod on as to not put your workplace into disrepute. However with blogging it works a little different doesn't it? I can quite openly express every little thing that really grinds my gears in the word of blog and I'm sure I wont be the first or last to encounter these issues.

Late payments, probably the only career in which you can expect to be paid late. In fact, I'd say 8/10 my invoices are paid late. Through no fault of my own, I'm pretty meticulous in sending invoices and following up on them but of course when those deadline days approach I settle into the glaringly obvious - it will not be paid on time. It's frustrating because in my 'day job' as a nursery nurse, my employer would never miss a payday, they're incredibly reliable, yet in the blogging world it's really a second nature. I'm lucky I guess I don't rely on my blogging income to pay for anything, it's simply extra money - but for those who make a career from blogging it must be really irritating.

Boxes, cardboard boxes. Whether I'm being sent a new mattress or a paperclip, you can sure bet they'll arrive in boxes the same size. Ones I most certainly don't have room to store, and ones that will require a tip run. I could probably rebuild a replica of my actual house with the amount of cardboard that's stored in it. God forbid a fire because we would light up like a match.

The need to be online. I've relaxed a lot more recently, I work scheduling tools to my advantage and can seem present when I'm very much not. It's hard when you're really starting out as a blogger, there is such a pressure on needing to be active across every social platform. I can't tell you the last time I logged into bloglovin, never mind actually used it. I'm learning to take a step back and actually go with what works for me and my audience. I'm not going to be glued to my phone all day, life comes first.

Winter weather, I mean of course it allows for some beautiful photos, the autumn leaves, a chance of snow, the crisp fresh air. But, in the 0.5 hours of semi-decent daylight it's just a little bit of a pain in the rear isn't it?

The misconceptions. I've delved into this further in my recent post, but non bloggers seem to have rose tinted glasses of what we really do. We don't sit at home all day, we aren't sent tonnes of 'free stuff' and we don't advertise things that we don't really use. Of course this doesn't apply to everyone, but I don't know a blogger that does any of those things. It's all a misconception, how easy would life be if that's how we worked?
